One Marinade, Endless Possibilities
Every home cook needs a few dependable marinades, and this is one of mine. Made with simple pantry staples, this Balsamic Maple Syrup Marinade comes together in just minutes and delivers the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors.
Rich balsamic vinegar and pure maple syrup create the foundation, while Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and herbs add depth without overpowering the protein. The result is a versatile marinade that works beautifully with chicken, pork, and even salmon.
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that I almost always have the ingredients on hand. There’s no need to buy a bottled marinade when you can blend this together in a few minutes using ingredients already in your pantry and refrigerator.
Why This Marinade Works
Every ingredient has a purpose. The balsamic vinegar adds brightness and depth, while the maple syrup balances the acidity and helps create beautiful caramelization during cooking. Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce bring savory richness, and the garlic and herbs tie everything together into a marinade that’s flavorful without masking the taste of the meat or fish.
Because the flavors are well balanced, this isn’t a marinade that’s limited to one recipe. Use it on chicken thighs one night, pork tenderloin the next, or brush it over salmon for an easy weeknight dinner.
Tips for the Best Results
Chicken and pork benefit from a longer marinating time of 4 to 24 hours, while salmon only needs about 30 minutes to an hour.
Before cooking, let the excess marinade drip off so the natural sugars from the maple syrup can caramelize instead of burning.
Whether you’re grilling, baking, roasting, or cooking in a cast iron skillet, this is one of those dependable recipes you’ll find yourself making again and again.
