Small Batch Apple Butter

Super concentrated, smooth spread packed with fall flavors, perfect for toast, biscuits, oatmeal, or even pancakes!

Ingredients
  

  • pounds apples
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp cinnamon or apple or pumpkin pie spice
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Peel, core, and slice apples into one-inch pieces
  • In a heavy bottom pot, add the apples, water, sugar, honey, vinegar, and 1/4 tsp cinnamon.
  • Bring to a simmer, and simmer for 20 minutes until the apples are soft enough to purée.
  • Using an emersion Blender, food processor, or blender, process until smooth.
  • Add the salt, and vanilla, and process for another minute.
  • Taste and add more cinnamon if desired.
  • Return to a simmer and simmer until your desired thickness and consistency.
  • Mine normally takes about another 20 minutes.
