Smoked Salmon Dip

Smoked Salmon Dip — Creamy, Zesty & Crowd-Pleasing

This smoked salmon dip is creamy, tangy, and full of fresh, zesty flavor. It’s the kind of recipe that looks elegant but takes just minutes to make — perfect when you need something impressive without the fuss.

Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, putting together a bagel bar for brunch, setting out cocktails and snacks for happy hour, or heading to a potluck, this dip fits right in. It’s equally at home next to crisp crackers and veggies as it is spread on warm bagels or toast points.

When shopping for ingredients, check the seafood department at your grocery store for high-quality smoked salmon. Many stores carry freshly packaged options that taste far superior to the pre-sliced versions in the refrigerated aisle. If you can, choose a variety that’s moist, smoky, and not overly salty for the best balance in your dip.

Prep Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 oz block of cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • 1 tsp old bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried dill or 1 tbsp fresh dill
  • 3-4 splashed hot sauce
  • 2-3 splashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 good pinch of kosher salt
  • a few turns of mixed pepper blend or white pepper
  • 8 oz smoked salmon, chopped
  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp finely minced red onion or chives for extra zip
  • Optional garnish: fresh dill sprigs or lemon slices

Instructions

  • Prep the base:
In a medium mixing bowl, use a hand mixer or sturdy spoon to blend the cream cheese until smooth.
    Add creaminess & flavor:
Mix in the sour cream, lemon juice, lemon zest, Old Bay, dill, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
    Fold in salmon:
Gently fold in the flaked smoked salmon (and red onion or chives, if using) so the pieces stay visible but evenly distributed.
    Chill & serve:
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
    Garnish & enjoy:
Top with fresh dill or lemon slices before serving. Serve with crackers, sliced baguette, cucumber rounds, or as part of a brunch bagel bar.
