Homemade Dishwasher Detergent
This homemade dishwasher detergent uses washing soda, baking soda, citric acid, and kosher salt to clean modern dishwashers effectively. It can be used as a loose powder or pressed into tablets. The combination of alkalinity and mineral control helps prevent food from redepositing and reduces cloudy film on dishes.
Instructions (Powder)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl.Mix thoroughly until evenly blended.Store in an airtight container.Use 1 tablespoon per load in the detergent compartment.For best results, sprinkle an extra 1 teaspoon directly into the bottom of the dishwasher before starting.
Instructions (Tablets)
Mix all dry ingredients thoroughly.Lightly mist with water while stirring.Stop when mixture feels like damp sand and holds its shape when pressed.Press firmly into silicone molds.Allow to dry 48–72 hours until completely hard.Store in an airtight container with a moisture packet.Use 1 tablet per load.
Notes
Vinegar rinse aid is optional.Store tightly sealed to prevent clumping.
