DIY Natural Hand Soap with Orange Peels and Castile Soap

If you’ve ever read the label on a store-bought hand soap, you’ve probably seen ingredients like fragrance, SLS, and preservatives you can’t pronounce. And if you’re like me, that’s a red flag—especially for something you’re putting on your hands multiple times a day.

Instructions

Step 1: Make a Cold Orange Peel Infusion

  • Add your orange peels to a glass jar and cover with 2 cups filtered water.
Let soak at room temperature for 24–48 hours, gently shaking once or twice daily.
Strain out the peels and discard or compost them.

Step 2: Mix Your Hand Soap

  • Add ⅓ cup castile soap.
Stir in glycerin and vitamin E oil (if using).
    Add essential oils, if desired.
Gently swirl to combine—avoid shaking to prevent bubbles.
  • Gently swirl before use if the mixture separates (normal!).
Works in both foaming and traditional soap dispensers.

Clean Hands. Clear Conscience.

  • This soap doesn’t just feel good on your skin—it feels good to use. No toxic runoff. No synthetic chemicals flowing into the sea. Just simple ingredients that break down naturally, keeping our waterways safe for fish, coral, and coastal ecosystems.
