Coffee

coffee

For some, it’s a necessity to start your day, and for others, it’s just something they love.

Now for us lucky enough to be living on a boat, and unfortunately, do not have the opportunity to drive-thru Dutch Bros, we want to ensure the health of our coffee.

Like so many things we need to store, the enemy is all those things we love about life on a boat.

AIR-MOISTURE-HEAT-MOISTURE

For the coffee you will be using every day, it’s essential to keep it in an airtight container.

It’s also essential the container is not clear.

And do not set your canister next to the stove, or anyplace sunlight will shine on it.

I have two containers, a blue one for decaf, and a red one for, bring on the caffeine.

The canisters I use are Chefs star.

  1. They are airtight
  2. They have a built-in scoop; I love my scoop, always being exactly where I need it.
  3. They have a built-in date tracker.
  4. They come in black, blue, red, copper, and silver.

I keep an inventory of four one-pound bags now, Billy does not drink coffee, so if you have multiple people on board, you might need a bigger stash.

I store mine in a tote, in the closet of the V-Birth.

Now on to the fun part, my two favorite ways to make coffee,

My number one favorite coffee comes from a french press.

And the downsides of the french press are
  1. They do not keep your coffee hot
  2. The glass can break easily in rough water
Lucky for me, Billy found me the Gater insulated, stainless steel french press.

So the upsides are.
  1. It keeps my coffee hot for an hour or more.
  2. So no need to worry about it breaking in rough water.
I love mine and highly recommend it.

The number two pick is the pour-over!

I just lone this thing If I need a fast, hot cup of coffee for a chocolate cake.

Chocolate, mocha and peanut butter cake,

Or I only have time in the morning for one cup or a cup of decaf at night; it’s perfect.

In November of 2021, Billy and I spent 25 days driving across the country, and I took this with me to make my own coffee in the hotel rooms.
