Servings 5 waffles

Equipment

  • waffle press

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unbleached AP flour
  • 2 tbsp Pure cane sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp Baking powder
  • 1 ¼ cups Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg
  • 4 tbsp Butter melted
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle iron (If you can choose settings, I recommend a darker or higher heat setting for a crispier waffle.)
  • In a mixing bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir together just until combined.
  • Grease the hot waffle iron with butter or avocado oil. Add about 1/3 cup of batter for each waffle to the hot waffle iron. (The amount will depend on the size of your waffle maker so feel free to experiment with how much you add.)
  • I use a paper towl to grease my iron as I do not use cooking sprays
  • Cook until golden brown. Place on a wire rack until ready to serve so they stay crisp. Serve hot with maple syrup and butter or your favorite toppings.

This is a small batch that only makes 5 waffles, but it is easily dubbled or trippled.

You can set your oven to 225° and keep your rack on a pan in the oven if making a large batch.
