It is commonly used as a seasoning for fruits, vegetables, meats, and snacks such as popcorn or chips. Tajin can also be used as a finishing sprinkle on dishes for an extra burst of flavor. Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 20 minutes mins
- The zest from 4 limes
- 1 guajillo chili
- 1 pasilla pepper
- 1 ancho chili
- 1 new Mexican chili
- 1 tsp sea salt
if using chili powder instead of dried chilies
- 3 tbsp Chill powder fill free to mix chili powders
Heat oven too 250°
Place zest on a piece of parchment paper on a sheet tray and place in the oven. Set timer for 20 minutes
Remove the seeds from the chili peppers and cut them into small pieces.I find scissors work best for this. Add the cut pieces of the chili peppers to the lime zest when the timer goes off, and place back into the oven for 5 to 10 minutes.
Add all to the spice grinder and add the salt and pulse the mixture until it’s finely blended.
You can customize this by adding paprika or your favorite chili powder.
Once all the ingredients are well combined, transfer the seasoning to an airtight jar or container. You can store it in a cool, dark place for up to 2-3 months. However, we recommend making smaller batches to ensure the seasoning stays as fresh as possible.
