Cajun Seasoning

Cajun seasoning is a robust, zesty blend of spices that reflects the rich culture and culinary traditions of Louisiana. Traditionally, it features a combination of paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and herbs, creating a spicy and aromatic flavor profile that works well with meats, seafood, vegetables, and even soups.

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients. Make sure to mix thoroughly to ensure an even distribution of spices.
  • Or give everything a whirl in a spice grinder, blander or food proccecer. This helps to break up the dried herbs, and how I do it.
  • Taste and Adjust: Taste your mixture and adjust the salt and cayenne pepper if desired. If you prefer more heat, add a pinch more cayenne.
  • Store: Transfer your Cajun seasoning into an airtight container or jar. Label it with the date, and it should last up to six months in a cool, dark place.
  • Cajun seasoning is incredibly versatile! Here are some delicious ways to use your homemade blend:
    - **Season Grilled Meats**: Rub it onto chicken, pork, or shrimp before grilling for a spicy kick.
    - **Flavor Vegetables**: Toss vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or potatoes in olive oil and Cajun seasoning before roasting.
    - **Add to Soups**: Stir some seasoning into your favorite soup or gumbo for added depth of flavor.
    - **Spice Up Rice and Pasta**: Enhance simple rice or pasta dishes by adding a teaspoon or two while cooking.
